March 20th is "Won't You Be My Neighbor Day" in honor of Fred Rogers. This is an annual event to celebrate Fred Rogers and his legacy of neighborliness on his birthday. Neighbors everywhere are encouraged to wear their favorite sweater and show neighborly acts in their own neighborhoods.
So on Saturday, March 20th join me and thousands of other neighbors by wearing your favorite sweater. I'll be wearing mine in honor of this wonderfully kind and gentle man who taught me so much while watching him with my children.
Here's just one example of how other neighbors are celebrating:
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership will be collecting gently used men's, women's and children's sweaters from March 15 - March 19, 2010. All collected sweaters will be donated to local organizations in need.
Although I'm not in Pittsburgh I know I have some sweaters who could use a new home and will be donated to a charity in my area. What better way to celebrate Fred, clean out your closet and help those in need?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mr. ROGERS!
